This installation of video, photographs and sculpture examines the tension between distance and closeness within the idea of the family. Using strategies of repetition and variation the artist explores the physical and psychological landscape she comes from.
Clare Samuel is a visual artist, writer and researcher. Originally from Northern Ireland, she became a Canadian citizen last year. She holds a BFA from Ryerson University and an MFA from Concordia. Her work has been exhibited and screened internationally, most recently at EMK Center in Dhaka. Her images and writing have appeared in publications such as Prefix Photo, Photomonitor and Border Crossings. She teaches in the Photography programme at Ryerson.
