The Valley of a Silent Man

Jay Colosi

Opening Reception: Thursday April 12th, 2018, 7-9 pm
Exhibition Run: Thursday, April 12th - Sunday, April 29th, 2018

The Valley of a Silent Man is an exploration of hyper-masculinity through the lens of
classic western films. The tropes from these films are used to represent the artists navigation of
masculinity. It is a deconstruction of a body that is never fully accepted as masculine. The
project explores the artist’s psychological and emotional journey as they grapple with their
gender identity. They are trying to earn the title of trans*. It is a fumbled exploration of uncharted
territory. The work exists in the space between the binaries and dissects what it means to be in
transition. New relationships are created between reality and the unobtainable while the space
between the two is ever widening.
