Artspace is pleased to present the 2024 iteration of The First Edition Photobook Show. The works in the show were produced by IMA students for The Photographic Book Class.

The books in the show take many shapes and forms, each employing different approaches to materials, binding, storytelling and sequencing. The sheer variety on display in the show is a testament to the resurgent interest in the photobook as a form. Now more than ever, artists are engaged in the physical object of the book, which brings with it so many possibilities for narrative and material experimentation, as well as a uniquely intimate and tactile experience of the image. Each book reveals its own language, its own world, and its own take on the ever-evolving form of the photobook itself. We are pleased to showcase the diversity of visual perspectives and explorations into the forms and formats possible within the Photobook practice.

We are excited to announce that the university Library's Special Collections Department is adjudicating the First Edition Photobook Award, generously sponsored by the Photographic Historical Society of Canada. The award is an exciting opportunity for students to have their photobook purchased and archived in the university’s Special Collections department.
