Face to Face with Canada - A Nation at Work
Martin Weinhold
Exhibition Run: Friday, September 1st, 2017 – Sunday, September 24th, 2017
“Face to Face with Canada – A Nation at Work” shows a selection of images from WorkSpace Canada, an extended documentary project on Canadian workers by photographer Martin Weinhold.
The project was scheduled for a decade of constant work from 2006 to 2016. Within this timeframe, Weinhold rendered a composite portrait of contemporary Canada that introduces this vast country through its people and their occupations. The entire collection became a larger narrative about the relationship between person and workplace. At the same time, it is a fascinating journey that takes the viewer to all Canadian provinces, from the east to the west coast, from the southern border to the tundra in Nunavut. The year of Canada’s sesquicentennial is an ideal occasion to present this unique document about a young nation.
WorkSpace Canada was exclusively photographed on a total of 1,100 rolls of medium-format black and white film, and all prints are black and white gelatin-silver prints.
