ARTSPACE PLATFORM PRESENTS:

A CONVERSATION WITH
DERRICK BLACK & JEFF BIERK

Please click the [CC] button for transcribed video.

Join us as we interview Moss Park Mayor Derrick Black and photographer Jeff Bierk about consent, the ethics of documentary photography, and activist group ESN Toronto (Encampment Support Network).

Jeff Bierk's work engages themes that grapple with grief, addiction, homelessness and settler-colonial constructs of beauty and masculinity. Predominantly known for his portraiture, Bierk makes work that poses serious questions about the ethics of street photography. Through a practice of collaborative photography, Bierk and his collaborators disrupt the formal definition and economics of photojournalism and problematize the idea of the photographer as the sole author of the photograph.

Special Thanks to Jeff and Derrick for their time.
