Artspace Gallery presents, an in-gallery conversation with: AJEURO ABALA, DEION SQUIRES-ROUSE & CHRISTINA OYAWALE

IT’S REAL BC IT HAPPENED is an exhibition and artist residency featuring Deion Squires-Rouse (4th-year photo) and IMA photo alum Ajeuro Abala, curated by Christina Oyawale (4th-year photo). Over the summer months, Christina, Deion, and Ajeuro collaborated in a workspace that provided them the space and resources to expand their research; creating an iterative exhibition that explores ideological frameworks around self-portraiture, perception, and what counts as “real”.

Funding for the project and artists fees are provided through donations from the BIPOC Print Fundraiser and the Student Initiative Fund. Please consider supporting the fund or donating to the gallery to continue to support initiatives like this one. The BIPOC Fund centers collaboration between Black, Indigenous, and racialized students and professionals.
